2. Personal Data We Collect
The “Personal Data” you provide, or which is collected by SKL may include but is not limited to:
- Identification details: full name, NRIC/passport number, date of birth, nationality.
- Contact details: address, email, telephone numbers.
- Financial details: bank account information, income tax number.
- Transactional details: property particulars, sale and purchase agreements, financing arrangements, corporate records, litigation case files, employment records, and other relevant information.
- Any additional personal data provided to SKL in the course of the Services.
We may collect Personal Data from:
- you directly (in person, by email, telephone, online forms, or correspondence);
- public sources or databases;
- third parties (including banks, developers, government agencies, regulators, and service providers) with your consent or as otherwise permitted by law.
If you provide personal data of third parties (e.g., spouse, family members, directors, shareholders), you confirm that you have obtained their consent and will provide them with a copy of this Notice.
3. Purposes of Processing Personal Data
Your Personal Data will be processed for purposes including:
- the provision of the Services, including drafting, reviewing, executing, and managing legal and related documents;
- fulfilling legal, regulatory, and contractual obligations in Malaysia, Singapore, or other relevant jurisdictions;
- conducting due diligence, conflict checks, and compliance screenings;
- internal administration, record-keeping, risk management, and client relationship management;
- communicating with you regarding the Services, events, or legal developments;
- facilitating payment, billing, and account management;
- complying with statutory obligations under applicable laws and regulations; and
- where permitted, for marketing, business development, seminars, and publications.
If you do not provide certain Personal Data, SKL may be unable to perform the Services or communicate effectively with you.
4. Disclosure of Personal Data
Your Personal Data will be kept confidential but may be disclosed to:
- SKL’s office and affiliated entities;
- external service providers, professional advisors, banks, insurers, auditors, and technology vendors;
- regulatory, statutory, and governmental authorities in Malaysia, Singapore, or other relevant jurisdictions; and
- any third party as required or permitted by law.
Where Personal Data is transferred across borders (including but not limited to Malaysia and Singapore), SKL will ensure compliance with cross-border data transfer requirements under the PDPA Malaysia and PDPA in other countries.
5. Data Security and Retention
SKL implements reasonable administrative, technical, and physical measures to safeguard Personal Data against loss, misuse, unauthorised access, modification, or disclosure.
Personal Data will be retained for as long as necessary to fulfil the purposes stated above or as required by law, after which it will be securely destroyed or anonymised.
6. Your Rights
Subject to applicable laws and exceptions, you may:
- request access to and a copy of your Personal Data;
- request correction or updating of your Personal Data;
- withdraw consent to the processing of your Personal Data (which may affect SKL’s ability to provide the Services);
- request restriction of processing; and
- request information on how your Personal Data has been used or disclosed
All requests must be made in writing to SKL.
